I may or may not be disappearing for a while. This has nothing to do with politics.

Print Story British Beer Questions

When I was young and stupid (and living in a town with an Anheuser-Busch factory), I thought I didn't like beer at all.  When I moved away and discovered American microbrews, I decided that I didn't like pisswater, and that beer was actually okay to drink.

Print Story Random Stupid Idea: HuSi Bike Event
Diary
By eann (Mon Oct 18, 2004 at 06:04:25 AM EST) (all tags)

Sometime next summer, maybe June-ish, USian (or those still willing to travel here) HuSites can converge with their bicycles and we'll have a cycling event. My first thought is a 3-day, 300-mile ride from Philly to Boston, followed by a large party.

Maybe we do it for charity, maybe just for fun. I'm certainly open to other ideas; I don't even really want to organize it. It's just a thought I had, so I figured I'd share it and see who's interested.

After numerous insidious bugs and false starts and mysterious crashes and everything else that can possibly go wrong, most of which take hours (or days) to discover, I'm finally happy enough with the software I'm working on to trust the numbers coming out.

Sometime in the afternoon of Saturday, 4 September 2004, all the cool HuSians in the Philadelphia metro area (for some value of the word "cool") will be gathering for supper (probably some interesting ethnic food) then beer. Curiously, MNS, the one who doesn't actually live in the area, volunteered to coordinate.

Inside: details as they currently stand.

Print Story Ask HuSi: wireless networking for desktop PC
Help!
By eann (Wed Sep 01, 2004 at 05:21:59 AM EST) (all tags)

Having just moved (Yay! I'm not homeless during finals week!), I'm now in a situation where I have to "connect" my clunky old desktop computer (free in 1999, for a hint about quality and horsepower) to an existing wireless network. Google presents me with a bewildering array of hardware options. I'm a software guy. Will one of you with a better grasp on the state of the world tell me what I should go out and purchase from one of my metro area's fine electronics retailers this afternoon? No, a new computer is not an option right now.

Thanks muchly.
